In 2019, volunteers coordinated 2,621 cleanups and collected 125,232 kg of litter on 4,665 km of Canadian shoreline.

▪ BYOB—Bring your own BUCKET to pick up trash (instead of using a plastic bag). ▪ Bring your own REUSABLE CUP (instead of using a single-use plastic or paper cup). ▪ Bring your own REUSABLE GLOVES (instead of using disposable latex gloves). ▪ ▪ ▪ Let’s Reduce Our Own Plastic Waste. The cleanup is family friendly. It will take place Rain or Shine. Everyone is welcome ▪ ▪ ▪ ACCESSIBILITY: Along the shoreline there are sidewalks and paved roads. Other areas can be difficult to access due to the slope and plant growth. Near the shoreline, areas can be slippery due to river silt. Pickers are available to aid participation. WEAR: Boots or shoes that can get wet and muddy. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER (Rain or Shine): hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, raingear, etc. as needed. REMOVING INVASIVE PLANTS (blackberries etc.): Protect yourself: wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts/jacket, gloves, eyewear, protective gloves etc. as needed. TOOLS: shovels, pitch forks, pruning shears, hedge clippers etc.—remember to label/mark your tools for identification. Refreshments supplied. ATTENTION: Participants under 19 coming WITHOUT parents/guardians must bring a signed waiver with them. APPRECIATION: Thank you to the City of New Westminster for sponsoring our cleanup through an environmental grant.
Goal(s) of This Cleanup
All cleanups registered in New Westminster must contact the city directly for permission to host a cleanup. Section next to Carter Foreshore Park that includes Suzuki Street pier to Gifford Street and west of there to Dockside Court/Boundary Road.
Since 2011, there have been 10 cleanups that have collected 1522kg of trash at this site.

IT OUTLINES CERTAIN DETAILS REGARDING YOUR PARTICIPATION IN OCEAN WISE AND WORLD WILDLIFE FUND CANADA’S GREAT CANADIAN SHORELINE CLEANUP. THIS AGREEMENT INCLUDES AN ASSUMPTION OF LIABILITY BY YOU (THE “PARTICIPANT”) AND A RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY IN FAVOUR OF OCEAN WISE AND WORLD WILDLIFE FUND CANADA (THE “PARTNERS”), AND ITS OFFICERS, PARTNERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SPONSORS, SERVANTS, AGENTS, VOLUNTEERS, REPRESENTATIVES, AGENTS, SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS (THE “AGENTS”). IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM, THE PARTICIPANT MUST AGREE TO AND ABIDE BY THE CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. BY SIGNING BELOW, THE PARTICIPANT INDICATES THAT HE/SHE UNDERSTANDS, ACKNOWLEDGES AND FREELY ACCEPTS THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT SET FORTH HEREIN.
In consideration for the opportunity to participate in the Program and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, the Participant on his/her own behalf and on behalf of his/her heirs, administrators, successors, assigns, insurers, estate and anyone else who may make any claim for or on their behalf, hereby irrevocably and unconditionally states and agrees as follows:
I have read this Agreement and understand that it contains a promise not to sue the Partners or the Agents and that it constitutes a release of liability and an indemnity for all claims. If the Participant is under the age of nineteen, I confirm that I am his or her parent or guardian and that I have executed the Agreement on behalf of the Participant.
This Agreement will be binding on myself or my child or ward, as the case may be, and our respective representatives, heirs and assigns.
