Vancouver, B.C. – The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited, and jointly led by Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, is launching a volunteer sign-up registry to help address the anticipated arrival of Japanese tsunami debris on Canada’s West Coast. This new registry will support local, provincial and federal cleanup planning efforts.

(Vancouver – August 22, 2011) In preparation for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited, a group of local school-aged children from Vancouver Aquarium’s AquaCamps will be cleaning up Lost Lagoon and demonstrating how litter can become art on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Since May, kids have been holding weekly shoreline cleanups and using the litter and debris to construct a work of art to raise awareness of marine debris. The Shoreline Cleanup takes place this year from September 17 to 25.

(NC)—In Pitt Meadows, B.C., Laurie Darcus is known as the “green queen”.  Co-chair for the city’s green team, dedicated volunteer and sustainability advocate, Laurie is involved in all kinds of environmental initiatives. Among them is her role as a site coordinator for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup (GCSC), a conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited.

Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada invite Canadians to register for the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup today at shorelinecleanup.ca to take action for environmental and wildlife conservation.

VANCOUVER and TORONTO – Vancouver and Toronto residents were greeted today by aquatic animal sculptures made of garbage along the shoreline. The sculptures were created to raise awareness of the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, presented by Loblaw Companies Limited, taking place September 18 to 26.

Presented by Loblaw Companies Limited (Loblaw), the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup engages thousands of Canadians annually to clean up their local shorelines through the removal of shoreline litter. The 2010 cleanup takes place September 18-26 across Canada.
