British Columbia Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Curriculum Guide (K-7)

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Curriculum Guide
First Edition, 2010

Dear Educator,

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a conservation initiative of the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada, aiming to promote the understanding of shoreline litter issues by engaging Canadians to rehabilitate shoreline areas through cleanups. It is a great way for you to connect your students with a positive experience that builds environmental stewardship.

With support from our sponsors, we developed this K-7 curriculum guide to help you integrate the Shoreline Cleanup into your school year with indoor and outdoor lessons for your students. The guide is divided into two main units: K-3 and 4-7. Each unit contains lesson plans and links to the Ministry of Education’s Prescribed Learning Outcomes.

The cross-curricular activities in this guide will have your students making art projects, reading stories, running through obstacle courses, solving math problems, exploring biology and doing what they probably do best - having fun! We hope you are inspired to bring the GCSC into your students’ lives!

Sincerely,

Jill Dwyer                                                                                               Jonathan Hultquist
